From Wolverine To The Thing: Comic Book Characters Who Are Also Brothers Of The Leaf

By MrCigarEnthusiast

Heroes of the Comic Book have a tough job, not only do they have to fight evil on a regular basis, but they also have to find time to relax when they are able to do so. To do that, some of them light up a cigar to unwind, after a hard day of protecting the world from the forces of evil. Here are some of those heroes, who are also brothers of the leaf

The mutant known as Wolverine (James Howlett / Logan) who has the natural ability to heal his body from wounds, scarring and damage, was the test subject of the “Weapon X”Project that made him virtually indestructible, thus making him the perfect weapon for combat. Being a mutant makes him an outcast of normal human society, add to that the responsibilities of upholding the moral complexities of not using his powers for evil, thus putting the weight of the world on his shoulders.

To aid in these overwhelming responsibilities, Wolverine is an avid purveyor of the cigar, lighting one up whenever he needs to unwind. Throughout Wolverine’s history as a member of the Marvel Universe, he can be seen smoking a stogie, when he’s not wielding his trademark Adamantium Claws, signaling he’s ready to kick some ass.

The Thing

The mammoth member of the famed Fantastic Four known as The Thing (Benjamin Jacob Grimm) has always been viewed as a grotesque freak by society, due to his mutated rock-like physiology, which was the result of cosmic rays that bombarded him while in outer space. His increased size and strength have always been an asset, as part of the Fantastic Four, but Benjamin Grimm, like most humans, has his own personal problems, in addition to protecting the universe from evil. When it’s not “Clobberin Time” for The Thing, he’s relaxing at the Fantastic Four’s Headquarters, The Baxter Building with a nice full-bodied cigar. The Thing enjoys lighting up a stogie, as a means to quell the stresses he has, as a member of one of the greatest teams in the Marvel Universe, the Fantastic Four.

Nick Fury

Nick Fury (Nicolas Joseph Fury) is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. a Law-Enforcement and Espionage Organization, which deals with supernatural and superhuman threats all over the universe. This is a 24hr a day, 365 days a year job, which would crack the toughest of men, but not a man like Nick Fury. Much like most humans, Fury does have some stress running a top organization as S.H.I.E.L.D. and he needs to unwind like the rest of us, who have the normal day-to-day stresses of life.

Fury relieves the stress by lighting up and enjoying a cigar, there are many a comic book panel where you will see Fury, cigar in hand, weapon in another, battling the forces of evil.

The larger than life New York City Crime Boss known as Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) is a ruthless, bloodthirsty man, who craves power and will do anything in his means to attain and keep it. While Kingpin has no superpowers, what he does have is a near infinite bankroll, and the connections to maintain the commerce of crime that floods New York City. His evil intention notwithstanding, Kingpin does have his share of headaches, which include battling such heroes like Spider-Man, Daredevil and The Punisher. When Kingpin is high atop his office in his unknown location in New York, he pulls a fine cigar out of his massive collection and lights it up. Wealth is indeed power and Kingpin personifies it, when he is partaking in a high-quality hand rolled stogie.
